Mr. Mathur is the former Chief Information Commissioner of India serving as head of the Central Information Commission, an agency of the Government of India set up to ensure transparency. Previously, he was the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, India’s foremost internal intelligence agency and was instrumental in revamping the intelligence setup and raising the quality of information gathering and sharing. He started his career in 1972 in the Indian Police Service and served in various capacities in different parts of India earning the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
